Ramzan Grocery List: Sehri and Iftar Checklist

A practical Ramzan grocery list for sehri and iftar: khajoor, besan, chana, cooking oil, rose sherbet and more, and when to order before chand raat.

Published · 6 min

A basket of khajoor (dates) ready for iftar

A good Ramzan grocery list has two halves: sehri staples that keep you going through the fast, and iftar staples for opening it. Stock khajoor, besan, cooking oil, chana, rose sherbet, atta, eggs, tea and milk first, then add Eid items like sewaiyan. Order early, before the chand raat rush.

Ramzan is the busiest month of the year at our counter on Main Bazar. The same items fly off the shelves every evening, and the last few days before Eid are the most crowded of all. This checklist is what we suggest to families who want to shop once, calmly, and spend the month on what matters.

What goes on a Ramzan grocery list for sehri?

Sehri (the pre-dawn meal) needs foods that are filling and quick to prepare at a sleepy hour. Most Faisalabad homes keep these on hand:

  • Atta for parathay or roti, and banaspati ghee or cooking oil for the tawa.
  • Anday (eggs) for a quick omelette or boiled eggs.
  • Double roti and rusk for lighter sehri.
  • Chai patti and milk powder, tea whitener or UHT milk, because sehri chai is non-negotiable in many homes.
  • Honey for those who like it with bread or paratha.
  • Daal or chana for a simple salan cooked the night before.

Plan sehri the night before

Knead the atta and set out the tea things after iftar or before sleeping. It makes sehri far less rushed, and you will notice quickly if anything on your list is running low.

Many families also cook a simple daal or chana salan after taraweeh and keep it covered for sehri, so only the parathay need to be made fresh. If you do this most nights, plan a little more daal and chana than in a normal month.

What goes on a Ramzan grocery list for iftar?

Iftar (the meal that breaks the fast) at most tables starts with dates and a cold drink, then fried snacks and fruit chaat. Here is the core list:

  1. Khajoor (dates) — our 500 g packs, enough for several evenings for a small family.
  2. Besan (gram flour) for pakoray (fritters), and pakora masala if you like a ready mix.
  3. Cooking oil or banaspati ghee for frying; frying daily uses noticeably more than usual.
  4. Safaid chanay (white chickpeas) and kala chana (black chickpeas) for chana chaat.
  5. Rose sherbet (800 ml bottles) for the classic red iftar drink with cold water or milk.
  6. Cheeni for sherbet and chai.
  7. Namak, lal mirch, zeera and garam masala for chaat and pakoray, plus chaat masala from our masala shelf if you sprinkle it on fruit chaat.
  8. Ketchup and achar for the side of the plate.

What we do not sell

We do not stock fresh dahi (yogurt) for dahi baray (lentil dumplings in yogurt), or fresh fruit for fruit chaat. Most families buy those fresh on the day from their dairy and fruit sellers. We take care of the dry staples, masala and drinks.

How much should you stock for Ramzan?

This depends entirely on your family size, how often you host iftar, and how many evenings you fry. Instead of guessing a month at once, we suggest buying in two rounds.

Item First order (before Ramzan) Top up when
Khajoor A few 500 g packs You are on the last pack
Besan Enough for the first week You see how fast pakoray use it
Cooking oil Your normal month plus extra for frying Mid-month
Chana (white and black) 1–2 kg combined After the first two weeks
Rose sherbet 1–2 bottles The bottle is half empty
Chai patti and milk powder Your normal month As usual
Sewaiyan, custard powder, jelly Not yet Before the last ten days

Our monthly ration list for a family helps with the regular staples; Ramzan simply adds frying, dates and drinks on top.

When should you order before chand raat?

Chand raat (the night the Eid moon is sighted) is famously busy. Shops are packed, delivery slots fill up and some items run short in the last days. Our advice from the counter:

  • Place your main Ramzan order a few days before the first roza.
  • Add Eid items such as sewaiyan, custard powder, jelly crystals and extra cheeni before the last ten days.
  • Keep only small top-ups for the final week.

How can you get Ramzan groceries delivered on time?

In Ramzan, evening slots close to iftar are the first to fill. Choose an earlier delivery slot around Peoples Colony so the order reaches you with time to spare, or pick it up from the counter at Shop 14, Main Bazar. Cash on delivery is available.

If you have a long list, paste it on our shopping list page and we will match each line to products in the shop. You can also check our deals, our packaged food shelf for sewaiyan and custard, and keep your besan and daal fresh with our guide on how to store atta and daal.

Common questions

What should be on a Ramzan grocery list?

Plan sehri staples like atta, eggs, tea, milk and bread, and iftar staples like khajoor, besan, cooking oil, chana, rose sherbet and pakora masala. Add Eid items such as sewaiyan and custard powder a little later.

When should I place my Ramzan ration order?

A few days before the first roza is ideal for the main order. For Eid items, order well before chand raat, because the last days are the busiest of the whole year at most kiryana stores.

How much besan do I need for Ramzan?

It depends on how often your family makes pakoray. A household that makes them most evenings will use a lot more than one that makes them on weekends; buy a first batch, see how fast it goes in the first week, and top up.

Do you sell dahi (yogurt) for dahi baray?

No, we do not stock fresh dahi. Most families pick it up fresh from their local dairy shop on the day; we cover the besan, masala and other dry staples.

Can I get my iftar order delivered before iftar time?

Yes, choose a delivery slot around Peoples Colony when you order. Slots close to iftar fill up quickly in Ramzan, so we suggest booking an earlier slot.
